Scarecrow Contest

For you budding artists, bring the funniest, scariest or silliest scarecrow you can!  Or build one at the festival, straw and supplies will be provided but make sure to bring items that will make your scarecrow stand out above the rest (clothes, hats, costume jewelry, etc.).  You can make your scarecrow by yourself or gather up some friends and do it together.

ESSAY CONTEST

For you aspiring writers, using 100 words or less, tell us about what you like best about autumn or write a story imagining a fun fall adventure. Be sure to include your school, your name and grade on your essay and send it to director@lawrencevillemainstreet.com by Monday, October 12, 2009.

Local author and lifetime NJ resident, Lisa Funari-Willever, will judge the Essay Contest. Ms. Funari-Willever’s book, Nicky Fifth's Passport to the Garden State, was just released. The book includes all real NJ locations as the setting and a Passport where kids can follow the main characters adventures and have their Passport stamped.

Ms. Funari-Willever has written 16 books, including picture books and chapter books. This past May, A Glove of Their Own won the 2009 Benjamin Franklin Award and There's A Kid Under My Bed was a Book of the Year Finalist.

Winners of both contests will be announced during the event and you do not need to be present to win. The essays of the 1st place winners and photos of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place scarecrows will be printed in The Lawrence Ledger.
